Shogun Main Title Sequence

"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere”…

Our concept for FX’s Shogun was to combine narrative elements of the story situated in the motif of a Japanese dry garden. This required overcoming many technical hurdles to get the sand right. We eventually settle on a technique of using reflow to simulate the millions of sand particles and bringing those alembics into c4d and rendering with octane. After much troubleshooting we were able to bring the sequence to life for this epic series.
